Troubleshooting

File won't open?

  • FreeMind files are XML-based, so you can open them in a text editor to check if the file is corrupted
  • Try different software if one tool fails

Encoding issues?

  • Try changing encoding from UTF-8 to iso-8859-1 if you see character display problems

Large files slow?

  • Consider splitting large mind maps before importing
  • Some tools perform better with smaller file sizes

Alternative: Direct FreeMind Use

If import doesn't work, you can still use the original FreeMind software:

  1. Download FreeMind from SourceForge
  2. Install and run FreeMind
  3. Open your .mm files directly
  4. Export to other formats if needed
